Manchester Tree-Athlon 2008

Sunday October 5th 2008, Heaton Park

The first ever Manchester Tree-Athlon was a fantastic success! The stormy skies cleared just as the event began and the sun blazed down on 430 runners, all taking part to help make Manchester a greener city. A similar number of tree enthusiasts came to cheer on the runners, enjoy the tree walks and free massages and have fun at the Tree Party in the Farm Centre Courtyard.

Martin Jensen led the warm-up which got the Tree-Athletes in top condition for the race and Chris Holliday and Emma Goswell from BBC Radio Manchester took the Tree-Athletes through the day’s activities and ensured that everyone had a great time. The runners were kept motivated by DrumRoots’ energetic West African drumming and entertained by Maddy our flowery stilt lady and all of the activities at the Tree Party!

It's thanks to our sponsors and all the Tree-Athletes that you we can continue our greening work across the UK and beyond. So if you haven't yet reached your £25 target please make a final push for it amongst your friends and send a cheque made payable to Trees for Cities, before 20th October, along with your sponsorship form to Manchester Tree-Athlon, Trees for Cities, Prince Consort Lodge, Kennington Park, Kennington Park Place, London, SE11 4AS.

Now, if you weren't able to attend the prize-giving ceremony here are the heroes of the day:
