London Tree-Athlon 2008

Saturday 20th September 2008, Battersea Park

Registration for the 2008 London Tree-Athlon is now open!

Trees for Cities in London

Thanks to the support of last year's runners, Trees for Cities has been able to plant hundreds of trees across our community projects in needy urban areas. In London this included street tree planting projects in Brixton, Brent and Tower Hamlets, the creation of a wildlife garden at Langdon Park Secondary School in Tower Hamlets, the total rejuvenation of the LamSom Playground in Lambeth from a dingy car park into a colourful haven for children, and planting on open spaces on the Bow Bridge, Stockwell Gardens and Studley Estates.

As well as supporting our projects across the UK, Trees for Cities also helps international communities as far a field as Africa and Latin America. Some of the ways we have helped over the past year include setting up reforestation projects in Peru, the planting of fruiting trees in Ethiopia and funding forestry courses for women in Kenya to teach them how to preserve and protect their local environment.

How you can help

This year we need your help to create a beautiful wildlife garden for kids at a South London school, plant street trees for the people of East London to enjoy and plant trees in London woodlands to encourage wildlife into our city.

To achieve this we need your support, so please register now and see how the funds you raise can make our cities greener!

5 km run

This popular run in beautiful Battersea Park is open to everyone over 14 years old and the selected route is ideal for beginners and experienced runners alike. Guest celebrities will be on hand to take everyone through a warm-up as well as giving out prizes after the race. Download the race route to train and get a chance to make it to the podium. The warm-up for the race will start at 9:30am.

Tree wish

As a runner, you will be given the opportunity to declare your tree wish! It will be printed on your personalised running bib for you to share with the world.

Plant a sapling

After the run, you will be given a sapling to take home and plant, helping you to create your own green space and give something back to your local environment.

Prizes and entertainment

There will be lots of prizes up for grabs on the day and the village fête atmosphere including picnicking, entertainers and stalls means it's a great day out for all the family.
